Gradings this Thursday

Hi everyone, Don’t forget we will be conducting some gradings this Thursday. I hope you can come along and support your fellow students and give them the opportunity to show how far they have come.

And we’ll be heading off to dinner afterwards for a small celebration. Everyone is welcome to join us, so hope to see you there!

‘Roots of Aikido’ workshop, Newcastle, 18-19 August

AKI Newcastle dojo will be hosting a “Roots of Aikido” workshop on the 18 & 19th August.

The workshop will be a structured, collaborative, process-oriented workshop bringing practitioners together to study the ancient origins of aikido. It will be an opportunity to receive input from teachers with roots in Chinese and Japanese martial arts to help us examine the language we use to communicate why we do what we do in our practice. It is also a forum for each of us to demonstrate, share and obtain feedback on how we synthesise, embody and communicate, in mind, body and spirit, the knowledge and experience we pass on in daily practice.

See below for details of the weekend workshop:

VENUE: PCYC Newcastle –   Cnr Young and Melbourne St, Broadmeadow

DATES AND TIMES: August Sat 18th   2pm-5pm / Sun 19th   9am-2pm

Upcoming events

We have a range of exciting Aikido events for you over the coming months…..

Firstly AKI Newcastle dojo will be hosting a Roots of Aikido study group on the 18-19th August in Newcastle. More details on this will follow shortly.

Then Sydney City dojo will be holding its 15th Anniversary Gasshuku with Daiyu Takeda Sensei (6th dan) on the 21-23rd  September.

In October, Suzuki Sensei will return again on the 27-28th, this time to Hobart. If you have time to add to this gasshuku, Tasmania is a wonderful place to holiday for anything from a few days to a few months.

And finally the year will come together with a 3rd AKI Friendshuku in Mittagong on the 24 and 25th November. This is a live-in style gasshuku hosted jointly by West Ryde, Orange, Bowral and Erindale dojos. This years theme, “Many streams, One River”  explores the diversity and similarities of Aikido that exist within our group and within each of us. This should prove to be an enjoyable weekend of training and socialising.

Everyone is welcome at all of these events so get involved. More details will come to hand on all these events so stay tuned!
