AKI Canberra is excited to host Yasuyuki Suzuki Sensei for the AKI Winter Camp.

Yasu Suzuki Sensei is returning to Australia for the 2013 Winter Gasshuku in Canberra in July. Yasu Sensei first came to Australia to study English in 1979 and through his training inspired the formation of Aikido Kenkyukai Australia! He has been a regular and generous visitor to Australia over the years, and is an outstanding Aikido exponent, teacher and friend.

This is an opportunity not to be missed.

Dates: Saturday & Sunday, 13-14 July 2013   (Sat: 10.30 – 3.30 & Sun: 9.00 to 1.30)

Orange Dojo Training Intensive 25 May 2013

Aikido kenkyukai Orange dojo have invited West Ryde dojo to join their Training Intensive on Saturday May 25th 2013 with Mike MacGregor Sensei. MacGregor Sensei was in Orange last year at the same time and made a big impression on the local Aikidoka with his creative teaching methods and wonderful insights into the art. It should prove to be fantastic training and an enjoyable weekend. 

Training is expected to run from 10am to 4pm with a fee of $35 including a light lunch. Please RSVP to Jeff by May 16th if you are planning to attend. We will no doubt be arranging car pooling for those attending.

8th Annual Blue Mountains Aikido Retreat now open!

2013-Blue-Mountains-Aikido-RetreatAikido Sydney City are pleased to announce that registration for the 8th annual Blue Mountains Aikido Retreat is now open!

This is a very special and unique opportunity for Australian Aikidoka to experience a traditional Japanese-style gasshuku where students live, eat and train together over several days in a beautiful native bushland setting. The camp takes place in a secluded retreat centre with its own dedicated dojo space, log fireplace, and a choice of dormitory-style accommodation or converted 1920s train carriages. Indoor and outdoor training in empty-handed and weapons-based Aikido practice is complemented with rejuvenating workshops in Shiatsu Massage and Japanese Oki Yoga. It’s always a magical and uplifting weekend, and students of any level are very welcome!

Spaces are limited to 20 people and the camp fills up quickly so please register early to avoid disappointment.

Sensei Bill Gleason (7th dan) at West Ryde Dojo

Sensei Bill Gleason (7th dan) from Boston, USA will be teaching at West Ryde and Balmain dojos next week. These will be a great opportunity to spend some time focussing on Sensei Gleason’s instruction in a smaller class.

There will be extended training (2 hours) followed by dinner afterwards. Here are the details:

LOCATIONS:

Tuesday 26th and Thursday 28th March: West Ryde https://rydeaikido.org/classes/class-times-and-location/

TRAINING FEES: A single class will cost $25 per person. There is a discounted rate of $20/ class if are training for two or more nights (payable in full on the first night of training).

TRAINING TIMES: Classes will run from 6.30 – 8.30pm (Please be there by 6.00pm to prepare yourself and the dojo, and to complete any waivers and payments.)

ATTENDANCES AND WAIVERS: Other Aikido Dojos are welcome to join the seminars. Please pass this on.

Non-members of Aikido Kenkyukai NSW Inc. will need to fill in a gasshuku waiver form (copy attached). Please download and complete a copy, and come early to allow plenty of time to submit it and avoid a last minute rush.

Members of AKI NSW Inc. (ie, AKI West Ryde, Balmain, Newcastle, or Orange dojos) are covered by your existing waivers.

DINNER: After training we will be having dinner somewhere locally. Hopefully you can join us.

2013 Easter Gasshuku with Sensei Bill Gleason

Bill Gleason Shihan (7th Dan) will be leading a gasshuku in Canberra this Easter. Directly from Hawaii where Bill is conducting a combined seminar with Dan Harden, a master of Internal Power, Bill will teach the exercises necessary to develop “aiki”; the missing component of ALL Budo. Gleason Shihan has transformed his aikido and is in huge demand in USA. Dont miss this chance as it will be difficult for him to return to Australia in the future.

Open to all aikidoists of all styles.
