Reminder Hiroshi Sensei (6th dan) tomorrow night!

Don’t forget we are honoured to host Hiroshi Sensei (6th dan) visiting AKI Ryde Dojo tomorrow night. We look forward to seeing you all there from 6.30pm. (Training fee is $20).

And after training we’ll get together for some sushi and a refreshing beverage. If you can join us please let Jeff know beforehand for catering purposes.

Return of Hiroshi Yamamoto Sensei! 22 Feb 2018

Hiroshi Yamamoto Sensei (6th dan) is back again this month with a four students from Yokahama City University dojo. This will be a great visit and fantastic training with Yamamoto Sensei’s clear and enjoyable style, also reflected in his students. 

There will be special training at West Ryde dojo on Thursday the 22nd February followed by  a weekend gasshuku at Balmain dojo on 24 & 25 February, also marking the 30th Anniversary year of Balmain. Details are:

West Ryde:

Thursday 22nd February,  7:00-8:30pm;  Fee $20.

Gradings Thursday and Last Keiko for 2017 Next Tuesday

Dont forget this Thursday (14th) we will be conducting gradings. Please make an effort to come along and support your fellow students who are grading.

And next Tuesday (19th) will be our final keiko (training) for 2017. It would be lovely if everyone could come together to celebrate and close a great year of training and progress. After training we will be having dinner somewhere local. If you are coming please let us know so we can cater appropriately for everyone.

2017 AKI Australia Friendshuku – 25 & 26 November, Mittagong NSW

2017 2nd National Friendship Gasshuku (Friendshuku 2) – Flyer

Come join us again for this unique training experience – our second Friendship Gasshuku. The weekends training will be held in beautiful Mittagong again and the training led this year by our fourth dans from across AKI Australia. As well as training there’ll be plenty of time together to eat and hang out at the beautiful Harmony Centre. Come with an open heart and open mind to live, love and learn in a collaborative, supportive and friendly environment.

This is our last gathering of the year and a chance to review and acknowledge everything that is Aikido Kenkyukai 2017.  As this is a live-in style gasshuku and food and accomodation provided, everyone will need to pre-register prior to the event. Ryde Dojo Anniversary Training – Thurs 26th October

The end of October signifies the anniversary of Ryde Aikido dojo, so we’ll be celebrating another year with a special anniversary training on Thursday 26th October followed by dinner and refreshment at a local restaurant (to be confirmed).

Training will start a little earlier – about 6:45pm so please make sure you are there early to help prepare the dojo. It should prove to be an enjoyable evening. Hope to see you all there!

Gradings this Thursday

Just a reminder, we’ll be doing some kyu gradings this Thursday, so please try and make an extra effort to come along and support those fellow students who are grading.

A grading is a wonderful opportunity for each of us to show how far we’ve come, and its nice to be able to share that with the rest of the dojo.

And we might grab a celebratory drink and bite to eat afterwards. Hope to see you all there!

Ishii Sensei 7th dan at Ryde dojo tonight!

Don’t forget Ishii Sensei (7th dan) will be teaching the class at AKI Ryde dojo tonight! Class will run from 7:00-8:30pm, but please be there early to help prepare. Cost is $20 (or $5 for those who have paid monthly). Training will be followed by drinks and dinner somewhere locally. 

It is both an honour and a wonderful opportunity to have such a senior Sensei visit our dojo. We look forward to seeing you all there tonight!

IIshi Sensei at Ryde Dojo Thursday 6th July

Great News!  Iishi Sensei (7th Dan) has agreed to take the class at AKI Ryde dojo on Thusday 6th July – just before heading to Canberra for the weekend gasshuku.

Iishi Sensei is a long term student of Yamaguchi Sensei and it is a real honour to have such a senior Sensei run a seminar in our dojo. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to learn from such an experienced teacher. 

Hope to see you all there on the 6th July (that’s Thursday week).

Ishii Sensei 7th Dan in Canberra: 8-9 July 2017

Ishii sensei (7th Dan) returns to Canberra in July after many his years. A long time student of the late Yamaguchi sensei Ishii sensei shares a common tradition with our AKI teachers.  Ishii sensei was last in Canberra in 1999, where he taught for several months. His clear descriptions, practical and concise technique, and generous nature are remembered fondly and we look forward to training with him again.

Saturday 8 July (10.00am – 4.00pm)

Sunday 9 July (9.00am – 2.00pm)

Easter Gasshuku with Suzuki Sensei (7th dan): 14-16 April 2017

The Easter Gasshuku in Canberra with Yasu Suzuki Sensei is just over a month away. This should be a wonderful weekend of training and socialising. If you haven’t already registered I would encourage you to do so ASAP. Early bird discounts are still available up to Tuesday 4th April.
