Training tonight is still on

Just a quick note to say that I have sought public health advice and Aikido training will still be on tonight as usual but you are reminded not to attend if you are unwell or have been to any of the case locations listed on the NSW Health website: Current COVID-19 case locations | NSW Government

Please note, in view of the new COVID restrictions that come in at 5pm tonight, you will need to wear a mask travelling to/ from training on public transport and in any indoor public locations. Participants will not need to wear a mask whilst training, but any spectators in the dojo will need to wear a mask. We look forward to seeing you this evening.

Special training Thursday 11th March

Hi all,

Steve Seymour (6th Dan) has kindly agreed to teach at Ryde dojo on Thursday 11th March. Steve is an inspiring and insightful teacher and we expect it to be a popular class. Everyone is welcome of course but we do have a limit on numbers in line with our COVID safety plan, so if you are planning to come along please contact us in advance so we can accomodate all.
We hope you to see you there.

Class fee changes for 2021

Please note that from 2021 there will be a small increase in our regular Adult class fee to help cover costs.

Class fees for a casual adult class will increase from $18 to $20 for the regular 1.5 hour class. The monthly fee will remain unchanged at $100/ month (payable at the start of the month).

Our Student/ unemployed/ hardship fees will remain unchanged at $10/ class (or $60/ month).

The $95 annual fee (due from now) will also remain unchanged. (This can be paid in instalments if required.)

Ryde Aikido is a non-profit dojo and all instructors are volunteers so we aim to keep costs to a minimum. However, if these fee changes pose any difficulty for you (particularly in the current economic climate) please feel free to speak confidentially with us regarding another arrangement.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Welcome back for 2021

Just a short note to remind everyone that we start back at training this week with our first class for 2021 tomorrow night – Yay!

In addition to our other COVID-19 safe practices in place we now have a QR code sign-in system, so please come prepared to sign in via your mobile phone for each class. You will be asked to show that you have checked-in at each class from now on.

We look forward to seeing you all back on the mat tomorrow! 🙂

Last class cancellation due to COVID-19

Tuesday this week was planned to be our final class for 2020. However, given the current COVID-19 situation in Greater Sydney and the current health advice we have decided to cancel tomorrow nights class.
It’s disappointing for all of us but our commitment to a COVID safe training environment is paramount. We will be monitoring the situation closely and hopefully NSW can get on top this current outbreak quickly.
We still plan to return back to classes on Tuesday 12 January 2021.
In the meantime we thank you all for your support over 2020 and wish you a safe and merry Christmas.
We look forward to seeing you in 2021 for a more “precedented” year.

We’re coming back!

It’s time to dust off that dogi! After an unscheduled break of nearly 3 months, Aikido Ryde is able to restart training from next month. Our first class will be Thursday 2nd July.

To protect you and everyone in the dojo we have implemented a Covidsafe Martial Arts Training Policy. All our Instructors have undertaken Covidsafe training and we have implemented some new procedures.

We have always had a strict health and safety policy so the changes are not major, but we do look forward to your cooperation in implementing them.

Please note, if you have been financially affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, talk to the Instructor and we can negotiate a suitable payment plan.

We look forward to seeing you all very soon 🙂

Yamamoto Hiroshi Sensei this weekend

Looking forward to seeing you all this weekend for Hiroshi Sensei’s seminar at Ryde dojo!

Vale Ishii Sensei

It is with great sadness we farewell Professor Masao Ishii Sensei (7th Dan) who passed away on the 3rd February.

Professor Ishii Sensei had been training Aikido most of his life, much of it as a devoted student of the late Seigo Yamaguchi Sensei (9th dan), which was evident in his soft and powerful style. He was a true gentleman, and a careful, considered and generous teacher.
We have been honoured to have learnt from him and to have hosted him on a number of occasions at West Ryde dojo.
He is sorely missed. May he Rest In Peace.
